u3a members are expected to conduct themselves within the movement's "guiding principles". The u3a movement is non-religious and non-political and has three main principles;

1. It is for people no longer in full time employment or parenting
2. Self-help learning
3. Mutual aid

Members are also expected to;

• Treat each other with dignity and respect at all times
• Abide by Swindon u3a's procedures and practices
• Reflect the current organisational policy of Swindon u3a, regardless of whether it conflicts with their personal views
• Use Swindon u3a's resources responsibly and only to further its stated charitable objects/purposes
• Strive to uphold its reputation and never do anything which could bring Swindon u3a or the u3a Movement into disrepute or expose it to undue risk
• Know, follow and promote the Principles of the u3a Movement at every opportunity
